June - July 2007

Oh, the lazy days of summer....well, not quite. With Caroline and Bethany, "lazy" usually includes a lot of fun.  It may have been against my better judgment to turn the playhouse into a water slide, but we did it anyway and the kids had a blast.  Thankfully, no injuries to report and yes, the backyard was a swamp when we finished.  Bethany is slowly, but surely losing her baby teeth.  This month, she now sports a hole on the top row.  The girls still enjoy helping Schuyler work on the vehicles. The face painting pictures are from a Raytheon family event at the Bill Bates Cowboy Ranch for the ITAS program Schuyler works on.  The evening included a BBQ dinner, inflatables, contests, face-painting and other games.  The girls even won a gift card for winning a trivia contest, with a little help from the crowd. :)

Our church's VBS was held the last week of June. The "Game Day" theme was a  great way for all the kids to get involved.  I was the Preschool/Kindergarten VBS Director, so I was on my toes all week - I felt like I'd gone on a mission trip without leaving home.  Of course, VBS is the biggest outreach event our church does, so it really was a local mission "trip".  The kids received a tattoo every day, so by the end of the week, Caroline has run out of places to put tattoos.

We celebrated the Fourth of July with our friends, Todd and Heather.  Then, the girls each spent a a few days at Oma's house.  Bethany enjoyed a roller skating outing with her best friend, Grace.  She also went away to camp for the first time - a barely 24-hours, overnight, 1st-and-2nd grade church camp adventure in Denton.  She loved it!  While Bethany was at camp, I picked up Caroline and we celebrated Oma's birthday with her.  The girls make their first geocaching find with Schuyler. They also enjoy a few playdates with their friend, Meghan.  Our neighborhood found a turtle in his yard and gave it to us.  We took it down to the creek to release it.  I'm not sure who was more leery about touching it - me or the girls!

At the end of the July, I had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take a trip to the Canadian Rockies with my mom and my grandmother.  The scenery is breath-taking and we had a marvelous time creating memories together.  Click on the link below to see our adventures together.
