Vacation continues...
On July, 1st, we met up with the rest of Schuyler's family for his cousin's wedding in NJ. The grand affair was fun for all of us. Since the groom is a fireman, the transportation of choice for the newly married couple was of course, a fire truck, much to the pleasure of the girls. They had a great time dancing with Uncle Will, and the rest of the family. Caroline managed to take an hour nap in the middle of the reception. Bethany's dance partner for one song was her new "Lightning McQueen" racecar (aka the red blur in the picture).
Ocean City is a favorite vacation spot for Schuyler's family. Where else can you find sand, surf, amusements, food, putt-putt, bikes, and fun in one convenient package? We settled in for the extended July 4th holiday and packed in all the activities we could. We were even invited to a July 4th picnic at a friend's beach house, complete with S'mores on the front porch and a view of the fireworks.
The route home took us to an overnight stop in West Virginia, lunch in Kentucky (the first time any of the 3 girls had visited the state), a great visit with our friends, the Mims' family, just outside Nashville, and a quick stop with friends in Arkansas before driving through to McKinney...and our own beds!
Here's a summary of our vacation, "by the numbers":
4161
miles traveled
200 gallons of gas
58 mph, average speed (includes city driving, sitting on the NJ turnpike, and
driving in buckets of rain)
17 states visited
8 different beds slept in
7 or more meals that included pizza
6 days of driving in the rain (remember the NE flood a few weeks ago...that
rain!)
3 days at the beach
2 hours stuck in traffic and lost in DC
2 incredible kids who did great
1 emergency bathroom stop...the whole trip
1
driver (I'm not allowed to drive :) when we're both in the vehicle)
Too many too count....memories and family bonding moments!
