Cinco de Mayo Celebration

May 2006

¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo!   My school year of Spanish culminated in a fiesta for all 150 of my kids on May 2 (not the 5th, but our normal "Spanish on Tuesday" time).  Each class took a group picture in sombreros, danced the Mexican Hat Dance, and broke a piñata.  I only had 20 minutes with each class, so we had to be quick.  The kids had a great time - I've included pictures of the decorated room, Caroline's class and another of my favorites, piñata pics and what was left of old Nemo after I let my transitional kindergarten class have at 'em!

May was a busy month with end of year activities...somehow we didn't take many pictures.  Bethany's school held an end-of-year celebration for each grade.  Kindergarten sponsored an "Author's Tea" that highlighted each student and the book each of them authored and illustrated about their kindergarten experience.  Bethany's book was fantastic, with very detailed pictures, as you might expect.

On the last day of school, we drove to Angleton to spend the weekend with Kenton and Kerry.  We had a wonderful time and time went by too fast.  The girls loved playing the dogs, and would you check the awesome indoor pool in this small town?  What fun!

As we drove through Houston on Memorial Day, we put Schuyler on the plane back to Dallas and the girls and I went on to Lake Charles for the week.  Lots of fun with Grammy and Poppop...and another awesome pool close by!  Check out the big green waterslide...I coaxed Bethany into going on it with me on a double tube.  At one point going down the slide, it's a complete blackout.  I think the first trip down really surprised her, but she still made me go down it with her another 6 times!
