March 2004
Since the month is almost over, I suppose it's time to put up the monthly webpage, eh? The month started with a weekend visit from Uncle Kenton. He likes to keep in step with his nieces, even if he has to wear a bib, too. :) After a violent storm one Wednesday afternoon took a few shingles off the roof, the promise of God's grace appeared in the sky. The rainbow stayed in view for a short while. The sunset was pretty awesome that night, too.
Bethany has picked up a new hobby...catching lizards in the backyard. Mommy's not helping with that one, she's on her own. During "Pet Week" at school, Bethany was very disappointed that she did not have a pet like most of her classmates. She wanted a bird, but Mommy talked her into a fish. On Saturday, March 13, Sunny the fish became a part of our household. Bethany is doing a good job of remembering to feed him daily, but Caroline is doing more than her share of keeping him entertained. She stands up on the chair and talks to him several times a day. She can even do "fish speak" with her lips. The other day, I watched her show Sunny her Jonah coloring book. The conversation went something like this,
Caroline: "Look, Nunny! Nonah!" (as she holds her book in front of the bowl)
Sunny: (speechless)
Bethany has always had a fascination with a pile of pillows. Now, she's involved her sister and Daddy in the fun.
Bethany's preschool class took their first field trip to the local wildlife preserve, Heard Museum. They were studying reptiles that week and the museum did a nice talk about reptiles for them with "hands-on" animals. Bethany wasn't convinced about either one. (You should not be surprised that Caroline was interested in touching both the turtle and the snake.) After the short talk, the kids took off down the trail on a 45-minute nature walk. Caroline and I tagged along, but she was much more easily distracted.
Last weekend, Schuyler bought a playset from a coworker whose kids had outgrown it. He helped Schuyler dismantle it into a few big pieces, and then helped him load it onto a flatbed trailer to drive a few miles to our house. The whole process took less than 2 hours. Voila! Hours and hours of backyard entertainment. Needless to say, the kids love it. They can play on it by themselves, but they prefer our "help". The weather has been nice and we've been happy to oblige.
The last weekend of the month, we made our annual pilgrimage to Houston to see Kenton's show choir performance. We again visited with our Aggie friends, Vaughn and Sunshine and baby Jax...who just turned 1 year old. The kids had fun visiting NASA and a nearby playground. On Saturday, we met up with Schuyler's parents and headed down to Angleton. All the kids had fun playing on the indoor playground at the mall. The girls enjoyed the "at the school" theme of the show and the groovin' music. It didn't take them too long to stand up and start mimicking the moves of the girls on stage. Too cute. On Sunday, we again ended up at the same playground in Houston as last year. Bethany wasn't as fascinated with the rocks, Caroline loved the slides, and those silly brothers were at it again.
