January 2004

The second Sunday of the month was a busy day.  Bethany attended a birthday "tea" party for one of her classmates...quite the event.  A trunk full of clothes was rented for the party, complete with dresses, shoes, hats, gloves, earrings, beads, purses, scarves...you name it.  Of course, Bethany was still in her church clothes and decided she didn't need to put on a "dress-up" dress like all the other kids.  She did put on jewelry to get into the act a little bit...nevertheless, she had lots of fun.

Caroline wore a new outfit to church that morning that came with matching mittens and hat.  Not to be outdone, Bethany HAD to have a hat and mittens, too.  (We did manage to convince her to keep them in the truck when we got to church.)

Some of you may remember that Caroline, our little monkey, climbed out of the portable crib several times over Christmas.  She has been trying to climb of her crib as home, so we went ahead and moved her to the big bed.  Every night since then has been different...a few nights she's come into our room in the middle of the night, sometimes she wakes up whining during the night, and a couple times she's made it all the way to 5:30...and then it WIDE awake!  We're getting there...

This was birthday month for Bethany.  We had a birthday dinner with Uncle Clay and Aunt Robyn on her actual birthday, the 20th.  We led her on her first scavenger hunt to find her present - a new bike in the garage.  At first, she threw aside the written clue in a gift bag.  But as the hunt progressed, she really got into it and when she finally reached the garage....she walked right past the bike looking for another clue!  We re-hid the clues and she did the hunt all over again!

I lost my precious grandfather at the end of this month.  His year-long battle with cancer ended peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones.  He was quite a man.  The minister at the service said it all, "Thank you [God] for sharing Johnny Bonner with us."  He will be missed.
