August has been a "quiet" month...a few visitors, but no big trips. The girls are growing up fast. Daily changes aren't that noticeable, but looking back over even a month, they both seem to change so much. Caroline is "into" everything, including a mouthful of toothpaste just the other day and a test to see if Mommy's mobile phone could swim in the toilet. She climbs easily up to the piano to tickle the ivories. Uncle Will came for a brief visit the second weekend. He and Bethany had lots of fun playing airport. Caroline thought Uncle Will was rather silly, too, and they were both sad to see him go. It takes just a few drops of rain for Bethany to ask for her "Kitty" umbrella and rainboots to go outside, as long as their isn't any thunder and lightning. We had a rare cool spell (temps in the 80's) around the middle of August, so the girls and I packed a picnic lunch and headed to Town Lake. There were lots of ducks to feed, which Caroline LOVED, and Mommy took a good walk around the lake pulling the girls in the wagon. We even "off-roaded" a bit to see more ducks. I recently uncovered a forgotten tape player that is perfect for Bethany to play with. The first night she had it, she set up her piano to play along and dance with the music, even Caroline joined in.
Bethany was enrolled in a gymnastics class this summer. She had lots of fun with a friend who was also in the class. The pictures are from the last day of class when the bubble machine was brought in. That was the highlight of the class for Bethany. She was never too keen on the floor activities, but even by the end of the summer, those were starting to be OK. She loved the balance beam and the trampoline, and enjoyed the bars and rings.
Evening activities precluded a bath for a couple nights, so that meant a "special" morning bath in Mommy's big bathtub. The most fun is the high waterspout that runs the entire time. Be careful, though, with no mat in the tub, it's slippery!
In the last picture, Bethany is "reading" a story to her friends - all the Cliffords in the basket (which she decided was their house). Her imagination is running wild these days and we never know what she's going to come up with.
Bethany did spend a few days at Oma's house this month, with drop-off and pick-up at the halfway point in Waco. We all were "spoiled" for three days - Caroline didn't have a big sister pestering her, Mommy didn't have to listen to the whining and crying of sisters annoying each other, and Bethany got to eat pizza, tortillas and ice cream, watch movies and have her Oma's undivided attention!
