Friday, March 21 - Sunday, March 23
We left Friday morning in a blue minivan rental. Bethany was excited about the blue van...she got the back seat all to herself! We stopped once for lunch, and arrived at Vaughn and Sunshine's house in Clear Lake at 3:30. Vaughn and Sunshine are old Aggie friends, and by the pictures, are obviously expecting their first baby. In fact, he's here! Jax Vaughn Managan arrived on Monday, March 24th, just 2 days after our visit. They treated us to dinner Friday night, then we walked around the Kemah boardwalk for a while. They graciously allowed our family "circus" to stay the night at their place, giving us the entire upstairs. In exchange, we gave them a dose of reality with two small children! Bethany loved the stairs, along with her little sister, but a quickly installed gate help keep Caroline at bay.
Grammy and Poppop arrived on Saturday and we caravanned with them on the short trip to Angleton, where Kenton is a high school choir teacher. That evening, we attended a dinner theater performance by his choir. We all took a trip down memory lane (OK, maybe just Grammy and Poppop) as the kids performed songs from the 60's under the theme "At the Beach". Bethany had fun with the ice cream sodas and beach props!
We stayed in Angleton that night and attended Kenton's church the next morning. He is the church music director and this was our first visit to his church. Bethany went to "big" church with us; she was fascinated with the hand bells, and even went up with Grammy for the children's sermon. After church, Kenton treated us to a grand Sunday buffet at Riverside Country Club, where he is a member. We had to improvise a little with Caroline's lunch accommodations. She wasn't too interested in lunch anyway, but did have fun with her first golf lesson. Uncle Kenton used her as the putter...
That afternoon we drove back to Houston to crash at Kenton's house for a little while. We eventually found our way to a neighborhood playground. Everyone had lots of fun, as evidenced in the multitude of pictures. Bethany didn't play on the equipment much; she was too busy with the rocks. Caroline thought the rocks tasted pretty good, too.
After dinner at Marble Slab, we said our goodbyes and drove straight home. The girls slept most of the way and transferred to their beds easily upon our arrival at home. Schuyler took the day off on Monday, as well, to help us all recuperate from the trip.
