Christmas 2002

Christmas this year just kept going and going and going...we opened presents every day of the week!  We started the Christmas holiday with a drive to San Antonio on Friday, 12/20.  We spent the next 5 days with Lindsey's dad, step-mom and their family.  It was the first time all 5 of their respective kids have been together since they married 11 years ago.  Lindsey and Clay came down from Dallas, Wendy and Kerri flew in from Tucson, and Scott lives there in San Antonio.  It was a crazy reunion....we all stayed in the same house!

John and Shelby have 2 dogs and 3 cats; Clay brought his dog Nick; Bethany brought Clifford; Schuyler brought his new Xbox (video game system).  The girls had fun with all the animals.  Everyone had fun playing car racing, basketball and football games on the Xbox.  Lauren (Wendy's daughter) was willing to take on anyone for a challenge.  Scott and Chris (Wendy's husband) kept everyone up Saturday night (and early morning) getting into the games (OK, we were already up because the girls couldn't sleep). More local family and friends came over for dinner Sunday night.  Bethany had fun playing with her little "cousin", Bailey.  A highlight of the trip for Bethany was a tour of Papaw's planes.  They are cool!  We opened presents with Clay and Robyn on Monday before they headed back to Dallas; the rest of the gang opened presents Christmas Eve.  Bethany played Santa and helped distribute gifts (Mommy helped her read the tags).  Caroline's favorite part was eating the bows.  While we had a blast at Papaw's, we were ready to move on...the girls and Lindsey had bad colds and no one was sleeping very well.  But we survived "Camp Christmas" at Papaw and Grandma's and it will always be a memorable Christmas!

On Christmas Day, we drove to Austin to see Oma.  She was waiting for us with more presents...Yippee!  The girls helped Daddy put a game together and then crashed for good naps that afternoon.  We rested well that night and then headed home on Thursday.  On our way out of town, we stopped at Lindsey's grandparents new home on the north side of Austin.  Aunt Lori from Pecos was visiting and she finally got to meet her great nieces!  More gifts to open, more dogs to play with, more food to eat, and then we were on the road again.  We arrived home, safe and sound, Thursday evening and we all slept in our own beds...Yea!

Schuyler's parents arrived on Friday, just in time to watch Bethany while Schuyler and Lindsey took Caroline to the hospital for a check-up and to get her casts removed (and for a surprise visit with the LSU football team!).  Christmas continued with more presents on Friday from Grammy and Poppop and relatives back east. The big hit was a Clifford towel from Aunt Joan in Pittsburgh.  Wow! Somebody sure had fun with that one!  Bethany helped Caroline open her big present...she helped so much, she lost Caroline in the wrapping paper!  Grammy and Poppop stayed the rest of the weekend and helped Schuyler with his present to me...a fancy dinner and a complete night out at a nice hotel...and the best part, sleeping in!  Now that's a great present for this worn out Mom!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!  (Now when is actual vacation?!?)
